The Extreme Male Brain.

A blah blah designer blog post about the famous-ish designer that quit Google, but what it’s really about is how men have crazy brains that lets them hyper-focus on a problem to the exclusion of anything else.

In other words this post is for my wife who is tired of repeating herself when I’m working on something.

The problem you describe has been explained by Gurian, Pinker, et al. as the male brain’s tendency to frequently revert to a resting state.

Men do not have “crazy” brains. Large populations of males who have been studied, including via PETT and other scanning methods, have brains with similar tendencies and also a great deal more variability than female brains. Hyperfocus is a common feature of male brains in general, but you might not have it. Everybody is potentially different.

Hyper focus to the exclusion of all else is also a symptom of bipolar disorder.
