on Oct 16th, 2006Mark Foley Pressured To Run Again

[I'm going to start the week off by getting the Foley thing out of my system]

according to this New Republic article Foley was pressured to run again

Apparently Foley wanted to step down but:

“He said, ‘The White House made it very clear I have to run,’” explains Foley’s friend, adding that Foley told him that the White House promised that if Foley served for two more years it would “enhance his success” as a lobbyist. “I said, ‘I thought you wanted out of this?’ And he said, ‘I do, but they’re scared of losing the House and the thought of two years of congressional hearings, so I have two more years of duty.’”

When you juxtapose this against all the allegations that members of the House knew about Foley’s actions you really have to wonder about the people we elect to represent us and to run this country.

Of course you really have to wonder about voters who get more incensed over a sex scandal that has nothing to do with party platforms or ideology instead of being infuriated about things like the Abramof scandal, the Iraq War and its associated lies, the torture of prisoners, and the continuing erosion of civil liberties

And that’s all I’m going to say about that.
