on Jun 2nd, 2008Monday Jam: Mudhoney - Hate the Police (And More!)

I’m a sucker for seeing bands from my youth so when I read that Mudhoney was going to be in Louisville I bought tickets as fast as I could click.

And we were not to be disappointed! The show was amazing. Julia and me met up with the Louisville boys (Kirk, Danny, and Brent Stewart) at the show in time to catch the opening act, Phantom Family Halo, a talented Louisville band who put on a sweet and short set that left us all ready to see what Mudhoney was going to bring.

Mudhoney brought a truckload of sonic death and dumped it on us in spades. Mark Akers was an Iggy Pop inspired gumby messiah on stage whipping the crowd into a physically frightening frenzy. Leaning far out over and screaming into their faces they responded by going crazy and giving him all their love and energy in return. With beer bottles, cups, ice, and various beverages getting sprayed and thrown at the band Mudhoney just turned up the intensity and mirrored it all back out.

The icing on the cake was seeing a youngster get his face split open, kicked out by security for pouring too much of his body fluid onto the crowd, seeing him sneak in through the backdoor, going back up front, and then dancing around with his t-shirt knotted around his head to stop the bleeding.

Did I mention this was a pretty intense show?

So here are the Monday Jams. Two from Mudhoney and one from an opening act, The Phantom Family Halo

Mudhoney: Hate the Police

Mudhoney: In and Out of Grace (Demo version)
