on Jun 8th, 2009Monday (Slow) Jam: Tanya Tucker - Love Me Like You Used To

This song is a break from our normal format, but I’ve always liked it. I heard it in the background of something the other day so I tracked it down and now here it is for your enjoyment: Love Like Me You Used To.

(I didn’t know this, but according to Tucker’s wikipedia page she had a romance with Glen Campbel, another one of my favorite singers… Even if Wichita Lineman is the creepiest song ever.)

    Is it really *that* creepy?

Wichita Lineman? Hell yes, its creepy. A telephone lineman uses his powers to stalk a woman by listening to her phone conversations.

    That’s creepy!

He’s desperately lonely and the “singing in the wire” reminds him of his woman back home. It always struck me as more maudlin than creepy.

Reading the lyrics, it doesn’t sound creepy. Listening to the song, it sounds hella creepy.

For years, I thought it had something to do with a football player from Wichita.
